we went to dinner!
There was a group of around 14 of us (of which 2 were guys--typical
SAS girl to guy ratio). We were with a girl from Brazil so that was
AWESOME. We took a cab to Bufalo, a Brazilian steakhouse. Lots of
other SASers were already eating when we got there. It turns out
though this was a VERY nice place. It appeared to be where a lot of
business people went for dinners. Anyways almost the entire group
bailed but I wanted to eat there so I sat with some SAS people who had
just sat down.
It was AMAZING. Everything. The food. The experience. The people.
Everything. The language barrier was an issue but we got over it.
Everything they walked around with I wanted to try. (I didn't know
what it was though because they really didn't know how to describe, in
English, what part of the cow the meat was from). By the end I
probably had 13 pieces of meat on my plate. This was after the salad
bar, bread, cheese, potato mixtures, fries (well they weren't potatoes
but they were fried), rice, sushi, and procuitto I had already eaten
(and a glass of wine). Just crazy.
We stopped by the chosen SAS club…The Crocodile Lounge (I don't think
that's the actual name). It's great because I think at every port
there is going to be one club that somehow everyone learns about and
ends up going to (there's the rumor mill again…).
Fun Fact: I have not met ONE person who speaks English…AT ALL. One
of the waiters said "sorry" but that was it. It's crazy. I've never
been somewhere where I couldn't muddle my way through a conversation.
People keep attempting to use Spanish to get across our basic needs
but even that usually fails (They speak Portuguese). It's a very eye-
opening experience. It gives me an idea of how difficult it must have
been when the Europeans first met the native Indians.
Fun Fact 2: I just realized Wikipedia is one of our free sites!!!!
Fun Fact 3: Dang, gouda cheese is really good.
