8. Met a Man whose Arm was cut off with a Machete

Ok so probably what some people have been waiting for: MY FIRST PORT!!

So I know I was complaining about the swaying of the ship and being
seasick but I think being land sick is actually worse. Multiple times
yesterday I felt like the entire floor was swaying. If you stumble on
the boat people realize it's the ship, if you stumble on land people
think you're an idiot. It's a weird feeling. One of the locals
laughed at us when my friend said she didn't have sea legs or land
legs right now.

The first day I had an excursion at nine. We drove 1 ½ hours to see
the Carib village. The roads are crazy. So small and extremely windy
(not windy like air but windy like twisty). The bus driver honked
every time we went around a corner. He also honked when he came up on
someone he wanted to pass and then honked when they slowed down to be
nice. He sometimes honked if locals were walking along the road and
every once in awhile he would honk to say hi to a friend. There was a
lot of honking.

One of the guys and I went down to the waterfall and walked the rocks
and went in the water. This caused us to almost be "abandoned without
remorse." I felt very bad that the tour bus had to wait for us but it
was still fun. After we went to emerald pool. Again we did a little
swimming but this time Alex and I were the first ones back on the bus.

The rest of the day consisted of Alex and I bumming around the
capital, Roseau. I had some Ting (like Fresca), Skittles, and fried
plantains from the local grocery store. Hanging out with Alex has
many perks. One he is a guy so you get harassed a lot less. Two he
is so incredibly social and very good at smooth talking. Because of
him I met some of the crew and found out yes they do laugh at my
picture. We stumbled upon a church that was gorgeous. There was a
service going on, that we later learned was a funeral. While we were
there, a man walked up with his wife and started talking to Alex (I
guess he donated money to the church for remodeling last time he was
here and he's happy that it clearly got put to use). He is a teacher
on the boat and had met Alex at breakfast. (It's crazy because this
same man guest spoke in my finance class today about his LLC [which he
incorrectly called a limited liability corporation. It's actually a
limited liability company. But whatever])

That night all of the NPP and Alex (yeah he was the only guy…poor
thing) went clubbing. Everyone from SAS and their mothers were
there. I'm pretty sure there is only one club in Dominica (it's
called Crazy Coconuts to us….maybe club 91 to the locals).

Day two I hung out at Black Sand beach the entire day.

I'm actually really excited to get back to sea only because being at
port is SO exhausting.

Fun Fact: I really don't want to go to class tomorrow. I know.

Fun Fact 2: The timing of the posts may be messed up because I tend
to type them partly up in Word, leave them, and then finish them at a
later date. So sorry. I'll try and specify actually dates from here
on out.

Oh and about the post name....when we were out to dinner with the NPP,
Alex and I went back to the boat to grab some water. it's around a 15
minute walk. We ran into this man who was worried about our safety
because his arm had been cut off by a machete when someone attempted
to rob him. The weird thing is, Alex and I had met two girls who were
studying abroad there who had said they had been robbed by machete
too. I think it's a weird thing to be robbed by.
