everyone understand life on the ship. Probably not the most
interesting to some but you can really picture the extreme
circumstances I'm living with.
The steward, Rene, comes every other day to clean our room. He makes
our beds, folds our clothes, puts my straightener/curler away, and
rehangs our towels. Every four days he replaces our towels/hand
towels and gives us more toilet paper. On laundry days (days that
we're 25 miles away from land) we put our dirty laundry in a bag
outside our door and it comes back the next day folded and/or
pressed. Yes I know. Life is hard.
Every "A" day I have two classes (Anthropology and Global Studies) and
every "B" day I have two more classes (Global Finance and Women's
Lit). A and B days always go back to back. After every set of A/B
days so far we have had a break. We had A1/B1, then two days in
Dominica. Then we had A2/B2 and then a "reading day." The last two
days we had A3/B3, followed by "Brazil Day" today.
I lay out by the pool when I do my homework (usually a few pages of
reading) and have to endure the hot sun with the cool breeze. It's
the perfect tanning weather except that the entire ship has the same
idea so it's always quite packed. The pool provides a nice cool off
though (only really necessary in the Amazon because the wind isn't
very strong and the sun is extremely hot). If I get thirsty/hungry I
can hit up the pool bar. Smoothies and grilled cheeses have started
becoming a staple in my diet, which probably isn't good.
The bartender now knows my name but I'm pretty sure it's only because
he laughed (hysterically) at my picture. Now every time I see him he
smirks and I can't help but giggle.
The boat is starting to clique up a little but I still firmly believe
that anyone could sit down at a table and feel welcome. One of the
guys in another hallway has started to come up with cliques. The
following is what he has so far:
-Guys who wear pastels: Typical colored shorts, button up
shirts, and sperry's (extremely East Coast)
-Girls who follow the guys who wear pastels
-Girls who only came on the trip to tan
-Girls who only wear their letters: Hard core Greekers (I
would guess over half the ship is part of Greek life)
-Girls who still think we stopped in the Dominican
Republic (as opposed to Dominica)
Clearly this is not an exhaustive list but I found them entertaining.
Do not get the wrong idea though. I can honestly say I don't think I
have met anyone who I would place in the last category. EVERYONE is
extremely intelligent in some manor or another.
