10. See the Amazon River

Ok here are the things that are on my bucket list for Manuas (we
arrive on Tuesday):

-Fish Market

-Jewelry Shopping

-Clubbing

-Amazon Rainforest

-Opera House

-Futbol Game

I would have loved to go to Rio but it's an 18-hour train ride, plane
tickets are over a grand, and it's pretty unsafe. I have a feeling we
can find enough things to keep us busy.

I have a feeling our health & safety talk/logistics meeting for this
port is going to be quite long. Our global studies teacher was
talking about a few of the insects that make rubber tapping quite
dangerous. To name a few:

-Kissing bug: lands on your lips and bites. In 1-20
years your brain/heart start to decay

-Spiders as big as a man's hand

-Vampire bat: Sucks your blood and contains an enzyme in
its saliva that doesn't allow your blood to coagulate

-The bug that enters your body up your pee stream

-Spitting bug: As the name implies it spits, you die.

- Not sure the name bug: if it bites you, you go blind

And this is all on top of the usual malaria, Dengue fever, flu, and
other "typical" bouts. I can't wait for our talk.

Don't worry Mom I bought 98% DEET spray!

Tonight is my first pub night. So on every night when we're not at
port they allow us to buy two drinks (beer or wine) at dinner. Around
every other day (when we're not at port) we have a pub night from 9-11
on the upstairs deck where we are able to buy up to three (responsibly
consumed) drinks. We have had a few pub nights so far. I've made an
appearance but haven't bought a drink thus far. Tonight though.
Tonight is one of the member's of the NPP's birthday. She's 21! So
it seems only appropriate that we celebrate a little.

Fun Fact: My computer should be put in a museum for the strongest
things in the world if it doesn't crash before/after the end of this
trip. I think I'm going to back it up quite frequently. The boat
shakes…like an earthquake.

Fun Fact 2: The Amazon River is so much dirtier than the ocean. It
has a very observable color change. (I started taking my malaria pills)

PS. I'm sorry if the titles are getting lame. It's hard when you're
stuck in a football field size place.
